THE PROBLEM

• Major spills of aviation fuel - and fire-water run off in the event of a major fire outbreak - endagered the aprons of the airfield.

• Prior to testing and any further treatment it might need, the resultant fire-water run off would need contained.

THE SOLUTION

• ATG Services implemented a system that would contain all liquids within the drainage system: liquid run-off from key areas could be securely handled.
• To do this, five key drain locations were fitted with a series of bladders.
• The cabinets for these were placed in convenient and accessible areas for swift and easy response activation.

THE BENEFITS

•  Round the clock security is now provided for the drains at Gatwick Airport.
• Should any contaminants be spilt or a fire occurs, the drains may be shut off to protect the surrounding groundwater.
• Any spills can be effectively and efficiently dealt with by a spill response team now operating on the site.
• In the event of a major incident, the Fire Brigade is able to shut down the site and deal with the fire-water run off in a contained environment.
